Amazon is preparing to open its first apparel store in Ohio, and second overall, by hiring hundreds of full- and part-time employees to support the new location, which will open at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio. The retail giant opened its first Amazon Style on May 25 in the Los Angeles area.

Amazon Style is seeking to fill both entry-level and lead positions. All roles offer competitive pay starting at $15/hour for entry-level employees and $16.50/hour for lead employees, as well as a variety of benefits packages starting on the employee’s first day on the job.

Amazon’s presence in Ohio also reaches beyond the jobs provided within stores and facilities. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $12 billion across the state, according to a news release, including infrastructure and compensation for its more than 45,000 employees. These investments have helped create more than 55,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.

About Amazon Style
As Amazon’s first-ever physical clothing store, Amazon Style is designed to offer a personalized, digitally enabled shopping experience leveraging the retail giant’s technology and operations.

Using the Amazon Shopping app, customers can scan an item’s QR code to see sizes, colors, overall customer ratings and additional product details. In addition to sending an item to the fitting room to try on, shoppers can instead send it directly to the pickup counter.

Amazon Style will offer more than double the number of styles carried in a traditional store of its size, aiming to make its assortment easier to shop by featuring display items and bringing more looks and less clutter to in-store shopping.

While Amazon Style employees’ responsibilities vary depending on the role, new employees can expect to perform tasks such as providing personalized customer service, delivering items to fitting room closets, merchandising the store with the latest styles, helping customers at checkout and managing back-of-house operations.

Earlier this year, reports revealed that Amazon would be closing all 68 of its physical bookstores, pop-ups and toys and home goods shops located in the U.S. and the U.K. due to lagging. According to CNBC at the time, Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh outlets were reporting lower sales in 2021 compared to 2018.
