  • Walmart will open four health clinics in Oklahoma in 2024.
  • It will also open clinics in Missouri and Arizona for the first time and expand its presence in Texas.
  • In total, the retailer plans to have more than 75 clinics by the end of next year.

Walmart will open four Walmart Health clinics in Oklahoma next year as part of its broader efforts to expand in health care.

The four new clinics will be the first for Walmart in the state, according to an April 26 release. The retailer also plans to expand its health clinics to Missouri and Arizona next year, and it will also open more stores in Texas, the retailer said.

The Oklahoma facilities will be approximately 5,750 square feet, Walmart said. Walmart Health centers are located next to Walmart supercenter stores and offer various health services that include primary care, labs, X-ray, electrocardiogram, behavioral health, dental care, hearing, specialty services, community health and telehealth services, the release said.

“Walmart Health exists to help Walmart customers live better by providing convenient access to affordable, high-quality health care services for both insured and uninsured Oklahomans alike,” said David Carmouche, senior vice president of Walmart’s omnichannel care offerings, in the release.

“Knowing that access to comprehensive primary care, dental care and behavioral health services is a challenge in many communities, it is our hope that this one-stop model will help solve this challenge for our neighbors in Oklahoma City," he continued. "Providing these services in a place where many already live and shop and co-locating them by pharmacy and vision services and next to healthy foods in the Walmart grocery section is intentional. We can coordinate unique and impactful health care experiences."

As Retail Leader previously reported, Walmart has quickly worked to scale the Walmart Health concept since it first introduced it in 2019. The Oklahoma openings build upon the 28 Walmart Health clinics already slated to open in 2024, including 10 in the Dallas area, eight in the Houston area, six in Phoenix and four in Kansas City, Missouri. In total, the retailer has opened more than 30 Walmart Health locations so far, and it plans to expand this year with 16 new locations in Florida alone. The retailer projects to have more than 75 clinics by the end of next year.
