Maverik continues expansion into 13th state
- Maverik is opening a new store in Montana.
- The store will be Maverik’s first location in the state, and its 13th state of operation.

Maverik – Adventure’s First Stop is preparing to open a store in Montana, marking the entrance into its 13th state.
According to a release sent to Retail Leader, Maverik recently began construction to build the facility, located in Helena, Montana. The gas station and c-store is expected to open in the first quarter of next year — Maverik hasn’t yet set an opening date. At 5,951 square feet, the new location will be one of the bigger stores in Maverik’s fleet; its stores range from 3,300 to 5,900 square feet.
Here’s what Maverik said customers can expect at the new store:
- “Adventure's First Stop” branding, offering panoramic landscape photos of Montana and other adventure imagery and videos on store screens, gas pumps and fountain dispensers.
- RV-oriented services, including an RV dump and RV lanes.
- Picnic tables near the building.
- Fresh-made hot and cold food items from its BonFire in-house concept, including burritos, sandwiches, pizzas and salads.
- Coffee and pastries from its “Bean to Cup” coffee program.
The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
“Maverik is always looking to enter and consider expanding in areas where customers have unmet needs for fueling, great food and adventure,” the retailer said in the release. “We’re excited about our growth in Montana and look forward to exploring additional opportunities to serve even more Montana customers.”
In addition to the new Montana store, Maverik operates more than 400 locations across a dozen western states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The Wyoming-based Maverik earlier this year entered an agreement to purchase c-store chain Kum & Go for an undisclosed amount, Retail Leader reported. If finalized, Maverik stands to gain about 400 locations across the Midwest. It also agreed to acquire Solar Transport, Kum & Go parent company Krause Group’s tank truck carrier and logistics provider.
